Junior Bs Make it 4 from 4
J.H.C.(B) Blackrock 4 – 17 V Ballinure 1 – 03 @ Church Road @ 19.15.
Our Junior Hurlers easily accounted for Ballinure in the first round of the Junior Hurling (B) Championship at Church Road this evening, and so completed a quartet of first round championship wins for our adult teams. They have now joined our Senior, Intermediate and Junior A teams as first round winners. In what turned out to be a very sporting game, both teams gave of their best and served up an entertaining hour of hurling. Paul O’Brien opened the scoring for the Rockies with a point before Colm Barry first timed a great ground shot to the net for our first major score. Colm also tacked on a further 3 points from play. Shane Norberg was using his strength and speed to great effect t centre forward, and ended the half with 1 goal and 1 point to his credit. Philip O’Callaghan’s accuracy from frees was rewarded with 4 points and Rory Burke got in on the act with a point also to bring our score to 2 – 10 as the short whistle sounded. Ballinure replied with 3 points from placed balls.
Colm Barry, Denis Moran and Rory Burke each added a point to our tally and Philip O’Callaghan was again on target for 2 pointed frees. Shane Norberg continued from where he had left off in the first half, and burst through for two further goals and a point, to bring our second half haul to 2 – 06. Ballinure converted a free for a goal, but that was as good as it got for them and proved to be they’re only score in this period. We had a big turnout of players and as the game drew to a close our selectors introduced 5 subs to the fray. Now that all of our adult teams have negotiated their first round hurdle’s, let hope the winning trend continues for the remainder of the championship.
It must also go on record that the Junior B squad consists of 25 players. An incredible rate of participation for the club’s 4th adult team and huge credit is due to Ger Coughlan and the Junior A and B selectors who have put a huge effort into ensuring that participation rates are increased across the board.
